JULY 6, 2004 – MARCH 31, 2021

Henry Michael Matheson was born on July 6, 2004 in Denver, Colorado. He spent his early childhood years in Northglenn before moving to Longmont in 2016, where he became a beloved member of the community. He died on March 31, 2021 in a traffic accident.

Henry was a gifted and dedicated athlete, and was involved in multiple sports as a child and adolescent, including soccer, rugby, judo, water polo, and swimming. As a swimmer, he was a 10-time state champion in multiple events and part of an outstanding relay with Flatirons Swimming in 2016 that set a state record that still stands today. In his teenage years, he turned his focus, energy, and discipline onto the tennis court, where he quickly became one of the top players in Colorado, and played 1 Singles for Longmont High School tennis. He could often be seen working out at the Longmont Athletic Club as early as 5:00 in the morning, a practice he continued through the entirety of 2020. His work ethic, positive attitude, and pure love of the game were an inspiration to everyone he encountered.

Off the court, Henry was a smart and talented student who preferred to use his abilities outside of the classroom. He was homeschooled like the rest of his four older siblings, and in addition to his traditional studies, was an excellent baker and cook, who would cook steak and pork chops for lunch and bake sugar cookies and cinnamon rolls late at night. He could juggle and ride the unicycle, sometimes simultaneously. He loved playing games of all kinds, including pool, ping-pong, basketball, poker, settlers of Catan, monopoly, and slapjack. He was devoted to the family corgi, Gwladys, who slept in his room every night. He is survived by his siblings, William, Eleanor, Charles, and Lucille, and his mother, Jennifer, and his father, Michael. The memory of his grace, charm, and kindness will be preserved forever in the hearts of his family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am Wednesday April 7, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. A private family burial will be held at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the H.O.P.E. (Homeless Outreach Providing Encouragement) organization.
