John Bernard MacFarlane of Loveland, Colorado, surrounded by his family, went home to be with his Savior on October 18th at the age of 72 after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer.  John was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 10, 1949.  He moved to Colorado in 1969 and graduated with a degree in Forestry from Colorado State University.  In the 1980’s John planted his roots in Masonville and reveled in the peaceful life there for more than four decades.

John was never idle for long; he especially loved working with trees. This passion led him to become the Director of Parks and Open Lands for Larimer County. After celebrating 27 years with the county, he pursued a successful barn design & build business where he worked alongside his wife and three of his sons.

John enjoyed woodwork, hunting, fishing, camping, boating, snow skiing and watching the stars. He was curious and always learning, turning his knowledge into teachable moments to help others. He and his wife shared many adventures in Belize, yet, cherished the simple pleasure of sitting on their deck watching the local wildlife. He spent many happy summers fishing in the wild North with his wife, sons, grandsons and close friends. He loved Jesus and spent much of his time serving through his church, Group Workcamps and countless other activities.

John is survived by his bride Patricia Brennan, five children; John MacFarlane (Michelle), Ben MacFarlane (Sina), Paul MacFarlane (Colette), Justin Burns (Caleb) and Cassandra Damon (Frazier), twelve grandchildren; Vivian, Daniel, Joshua & David, Brant & Josephine, Wyatt, Owen, Elizabeth, Amelia, Isabella & Charlotte. He is also survived by twin sisters, Mary Haithcoat and Alice MacFarlane. He was preceded by his sister Donna Galvin.

John’s Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, October 24, 2021 - 2:00 pm, at LifeSpring Covenant Church, 743 S. Dotsero Dr. in Loveland, Colorado. Light reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to the LifeSpring Church Memorial Fund https://www.lifespringchurch.org or plant a tree in his honor. https://shop.alivingtribute.org/products/colorado-memorial-trees
