April 9, 1927 ~ July 31, 2020 (age 93)

Josephine “Josie” Mary Mosnik (Stanich), age 93 of Longmont Colorado, died serenely at her daughter’s home on July 31, 2020.

Josie was diagnosed with cancer in 2005.  She won the battle and had to have an ostomy bag.  She “affectionately” called her ostomy George.  In her later years she also suffered with macular degeneration and hearing loss.  The last year of Josie’s life was a hard one which included four hospital visits without knowing if she would come home, and she beat them all.

Josie is reunited with her beloved husband, Edmond Mosnik, her parents Frances and Joseph Stanich; sisters Frances (Wilbur) Checkas, Mary (Andy) Spahn, Dorothy (Rick) Sungalia; and brothers, Joseph (Hanna) Stanich and William (Margie) Stanich.

Josie was born in Lafayette Colorado on April 9, 1927.  She grew up in Lafayette and graduated from Lafayette High School in 1945.  Their fathers conspired to introduce Josie and Ed.  They married on August 7, 1945.  They lived in Erie from 1945 to 1992.  During that time, Josie worked at night for Bell Telephone in Broomfield answering phones.  Then she worked at the Eagle Mine in Erie as a clerk/bookkeeper until the mine closed in 1978.  Afterwards she was a homemaker and grandma.  Live Polka music was known to be played in her house when she lived in Erie, along with a garage or house party at least once a month.  In 1992, Josie and Ed moved to Longmont to be closer to her kids and grandkids.  Saratoga, Wyoming was Josie and Ed’s second home, with many trips up there during the summer months highlighted by Josie’s family fish fries next to the creeks, rivers, and lakes.

Josie also enjoyed cooking family favorites of petitsa and apple strudel.  She loved crossword puzzles, watching game shows, reading mysteries, painting, and gambling in Blackhawk and Las Vegas. On one trip to Vegas, her claim to fame was winning a total of $80K in jackpots on  slot machines in one weekend.

She is survived by her loving children Gayle (Jim) Hepp of Longmont and Richard Mosnik of Longmont; grandchildren Laura (Steve) Schechter of Longmont, Brian (Stacy) Hepp of Loveland; great grandchildren Sarah and Ryan Schechter of Longmont, Jenna Hepp of Johnstown, and Alex Hepp of Loveland.
