Kaspar Knutsen, 99, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2021. Kas joins his wife, Dorothy (deceased 2002) to share eternal peace.

Kas was born in Molde, Norway and was brought to America at the age of 2 and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. Eventually, he entered the CCC’s and fought forest fires in Idaho and Montana. When World War II broke out, Kas joined the Navy and was later assigned to the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Hornet(CV8) carrying the famous Doolittle Raiders to launch attack on Tokyo and survived its sinking.

After the war, Kas settled in Wayne, NJ where he and Dorothy raised three sons. Kas worked for Exxon for 34 years driving gasoline tankers all over northern New Jersey and also volunteered as a first aid responder in Wayne.

After retiring from Exxon, he and Dorothy relocated to Longmont, Colorado. Kas was a member of the Sons of Norway Boulder Lodge and volunteered at the Our Center and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his three sons, Doug (Denise) Knutsen of Longmont, Colorado; Kent Knutsen of Frederick, Colorado; Kirk (Judy) Knutsen of Lyndhurst, New Jersey. Seven grandchildren, Kris, Karen, Brooke, Courtney and Ryan Knutsen; Tammy Dill; Ashley Cunningham-Borjas. Ten great grandchildren and longtime friend, Lisa Yakel.

A visitation will be held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel on Thursday, February 18, 2021, from 4pm to 6pm.

A memorial service and inurnment will be held at a later date, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church and Columbarium.
