JUNE 24, 1935 – DECEMBER 2, 2021

Marlyn June (Carr) was born June 24, 1935 in Hugo, CO to the family of Jim and Olive Carr. She had an older brother, Lloyd Carr, and two younger sisters, Nancy Jarvis and Linda Stevens.

Marlyn married Ralph Carr in 1956. She and her family moved often due to oil field work, and they had three children, Lois Grenier, David Cole and Ralph (Rocky) Cole.

In 1964, our mom, Marlyn, moved back to Kit Carson and worked as a waitress and cook for restaurants in Kit Carson.

Working full time and raising three children by herself was difficult but rewarding. Family, friends and neighbors helped out as they always do since the saying “it takes a village to raise a child” was certainly just the reality in Kit Carson and elsewhere in those days. This was true long before the saying became popularized.

In 1969, Marlyn married her “high school sweetheart”, Gene McGill, and they moved to a small acreage near Mansfield, Arkansas.

In the 1980’s she moved to Fort Collins CO to be closer to family and worked for Colorado State University and then started her own cleaning business that kept her busy until retirement. Mom was a wonderful grandmother, spoiling her 2 grandsons with movies and pizza. She loved being involved watching their soccer games and other events and being there for picnics, preparing holiday meals, and paying them to drive her riding lawn mower.

She took care of her Aunt Violet in her final years and helped care for her mother as well. Mom always had a garden, and we remember picking and canning tomatoes, green beans, okra, and blackberries. She was an excellent cook and we always ate well.

Mom always believed in a higher power, and when she was near 70, she studied the bible and decided to be united with Christ in baptism.

Marlyn June was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Olive Carr as well as her older brother, Lloyd. She is survived by her sisters, Nancy (Floyd) Jarvis of Ogden, UT, and Linda Stevens of Fort Collins, CO, daughter Lois (Chuck) Grenier of Loveland CO, son David Cole of Anchorage AK, son Ralph Cole of Fort Collins CO, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. No services are planned at this time.
