SEPTEMBER 19, 1933 – DECEMBER 30, 2020
Marvin Nelson Dunkle, Jr., age 87 of Loveland, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Centre Health and Rehab in Fort Collins, with his daughter and son by his side.
Marvin was born in Veteran, Wy., on September 19, 1933, and was the fourth child of Marvin N. and Dorothy L. Dunkle. In 1936 the family moved to Mitchel, Neb., and in 1938 they moved to the Northwest area of Missouri. He attended one room country schools for the first seven years of his education, graduating from Fairfax High School in Fairfax, Missouri in 1952.
In December of 1953 Marvin was drafted into the U S Army where he served for two years. After his military service, Marvin began his college education in September of 1956 at Tarkio College in Tarkio, Missouri, later graduating with a degree in education and business in 1960.
Marvin married the love of his life, Rita Faye Hayes, who was an employed registered nurse at the Fairfax Community Hospital, in January of 1957.
The family, which now consisted of two children, David, and Rhonda, moved to Loveland, Co. in June of 1960. Marvin worked for the Loveland City Engineer for two years, before moving to Mapleton, Ia. for a teaching position, where they resided for one year. Upon their return to Loveland, Colorado, Marvin worked for the Great Western Railroad for three years. In June of 1966, Marvin went to work for Colorado State University, where he stayed for twenty-seven years, retiring in September of 1993. Marvin loved his job there, helping students navigate the hurdles in financial aid. From 1977 to 1985 he taught workshops for the U. S. Department of Education while still employed at C.S.U.
Upon Marvin’s retirement in 1993, he and Rita thoroughly enjoyed retirement, traveling some, and spending a good portion of their time together in “The Hills”, playing video poker in Blackhawk and Central City.
His wife Rita, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were the love of his life. Marvin enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren through the years, attending dance recitals, recreation, club and high school sporting events.
