Megan was born in Pennsylvania and grew up in southern California, graduating from Valencia High School in 1978. She married Dean Helzer and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fullerton in 1982. Dean and Megan moved to Dean’s home town of Fort Collins in 1983. Megan pursued her Master’s degree at Colorado State University and earned a Master of Science in Communication Disorders and then worked in the Poudre-R1 school district as a speech-language pathologist.

In 1995 Megan and Dean started a family and Megan became a full-time mother, raising two sons, Brenton and Aiden and home schooled them through junior high.

Megan had a wide range of interests and hobbies which included gardening, bird watching, knitting, quilting and sewing. She was devoted to church and involved in women’s Bible studies and served as an AWANA leader for several years. She loved doing things with her family and especially enjoyed day trips to Rocky Mountain National Park.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Dean Helzer of Fort Collins, sons Brenton and Aiden Helzer of Fort Collins, mother Shirley Lindley of Fort Collins and brother Grant Lindley of Boulder Creek CA.
