SEPTEMBER 5, 1925 – OCTOBER 2, 2021

Mildred Marilyn Allison was born on September 5, 1925 to Burghild and Forrest Humbert in a mid-wives’ home in Rapid City, South Dakota. Her father built roads throughout South Dakota and Wyoming living in a homemade trailer in the summers and apartments in towns so that Marilyn and her younger sister June could attend school. Marilyn graduated from Kemmerer Wyoming high school and went to the University of Denver the next year on a scholarship. After that she moved to Laramie to finish her final three years at the University of Wyoming graduating with a degree in business education. She joined the Pi Phi sorority and always had a part-time job.

She met the love of her life, Elden Allison, at UW when he returned from his service in the Navy after WWII. They were married on June 13, 1948 in Laramie. Elden worked for the JC Penney, Co. while Marilyn raised their four children. After several transfers with the Penney Co., they settled in Loveland in 1963. Marilyn loved her career as a full-time homemaker and mother. She was a Cub Scout leader, Girl Scout leader, room mother for her children’s school classes, and activities director for her busy family, which included hiking, skiing, golfing and traveling. She also delivered meals-on-wheels in Loveland for several years.

As the children grew, she had more time for herself, so she enjoyed reading and playing bridge. After Elden retired, he and Marilyn moved to Estes Park where they both continued to enjoy their outdoor activities and ballroom dancing. They played golf on 152 courses from Black Diamond in Denali National Park in Alaska to St. Andrews in Scotland, and were the first ones on the dance floor whenever they could! They became “snowbirds” in the winter in Arizona as they moved several more times to Montana and Utah before settling back in Colorado. Marilyn and Elden were married for 68 years until his death on November 22, 2016. Marilyn passed away at the age of 96 on October 2, 2021 at her daughter’s home in Foley, Alabama. She is survived by her son Dennis (Stacy) Allison of Ojai, CA; her three daughters Alayne (Bill) Nicol of Foley, AL; Laurie (Steve) Anderson of Berthoud; and Judy (Rand) Marshall of Libby, MT. She was also blessed with nine grandchildren: Suzanne (Tyson) Hull, Emmy Anderson, Matthew (Amanda) Anderson; William (Nelly) Nicol, Chad Nicol, Julie (Mark) Collins, Kari Nicol, Robin and Molly Allison and twelve great-grandchildren.

A private grave-side service will be held on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Resthaven Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Salvation Army, 840 North Lincoln Avenue, Loveland CO 80537. This “tough old broad,” as she was affectionately called, will be greatly missed.
