JUNE 18, 1957 – NOVEMBER 1, 2020

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7

Pastor Jesus “Chuy” Gallegos Blanco passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 1, 2020; he was loved by many who are grieving the loss of his life. He was 63 years old

Pastor Chuy was born one of two children on June 18, 1957, in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico to Jesus Gallegos Delgado and Elisa Blanco Nava. He grew up in Gomez Palacio where his father owned a welding company that produced industrial water wells. Pastor Chuy worked as a technician helping his father with the business. He attended elementary school at Bruno Martinez, middle school at Flores Magon, and high school at CECIT in Gomez Palacio. Pastor Chuy attended the Seminario Teologico Presbiteriano de Mexico in Mexico City from 1979 to 1983.

He married his beautiful bride, Rosario Viesca Davila on November 5, 1977, at Emanuel Church in Lerdo, Durango, Mexico. Pastors present at the union were Melesio Castillo and Antonio Farias. The loving couple just missed celebrating their 43rd wedding anniversary. Pastor Chuy and Rosario moved from Mexico to Greenville, SC before settling down in Longmont, CO in 2010. They welcomed into the world three wonderful children; Jesus Emanuel Gallegos Viesca (Longmont, CO), Rosario Jocabed Gallegos Viesca (Agua Prieta, Son. Mex.), and Susan Elisa Gallegos Viesca (Longmont, CO).

Chuy worked as a Pastor in the Presbyterian Church for many years before his passing. He served at the Good Shepard Church in Tijuana, Mexico, 1983-1985, Berith Church in Chihuahua, Mexico, 1985-1990, Lilly of the Valley Church, 1990-1999, John Calvin Hispanic Ministry, 2005-2010, and Central Latinx Church from 2012 until the time of his passing. He also worked as Coordinator of Frontera de Cristo Border Ministry, 1990-2005.

Pastor Chuy was a lover of life. He enjoyed many hobbies including reading, tinkering with technology, and watching movies. He loved to travel especially adored road trips with his family. Pastor Chuy liked to have theological, political, or personal conversations. He was definitely a talker.

Pastor Chuy was a loving father. He had a great sense of humor and liked to tell jokes. At times, it was difficult to understand him because he would laugh before even starting the joke. He had the longest playlist that included hymns, protest songs, protests poetry, Christian music, ABBA, Beatles, Spanish Soft Rock, and more. He could fix anything and if he could not he will figure out how. Pastor Chuy was a person that could keep the calm in the storm. He was a patient man and a good listener. He was a thinker and would always take his time before speaking.

For a class that Chuy and Rosario were taking years ago, they were asked to create a family tree. Chuy told Rosario to create an unconventional tree. He chose a saguaro as a symbol of their time at the Sonoran desert and their Ministry there. The way Chuy and Rosario described the meaning of the saguaro was that the main steam was Him and Rosario. The saguaro had 3 branches as a symbol of their children, Chuy, Joca, and Susy. On the main stem there was a hole in the middle (usually saguaros have holes where birds live), but the way Chuy and Rosario described it was that the whole served as a shelter for others.

Pastor Chuy devoted his life to serving his church members and the communities wherever he lived. Many people considered him their spiritual Father even after he had left that particular congregation. He was always concerned with injustice; especially for marginalized groups including immigrants. He began many ministries in Mexico and the US that continue to serve people and touch people’s lives.

Pastor Chuy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Rosario; his son, Jesus; his daughters Joca and Susana; his son-in-law, Jared Nathaniel Hueske (Longmont, CO); his daughter-in-law, Julie Ann Williams Gallegos (Longmont, CO); and his grandchildren Jesus Adrian Gallegos Williams, Giovanni Paul Gallegos Williams.

Because of the pandemic, no memorial service will be held at this time. To help with final expenses, please consider a contribution to Chuy’s wife, Rosario Viesca Davila. She can be assisted through Venmo: @susana-Elisa; or Cash App: $suelgavi, account number 26980922489.

He peleado la buena batalla, he acabado la carrera, he guardado la fe. 2 Timoteo 4:7
