A funeral liturgy for long time Pueblo, Colorado resident, Paul Gerald Montoya will be held at 10:00AM on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at the Peacock Family Chapel with Deacon Allen Medina presiding. Interment will follow at the Riverside Cemetery.

Paul Gerald Montoya, 54, passed away peacefully in Pueblo, CO, on March 22, 2023, with his family by his side.

Paul was born January 16, 1969, in Lamar, CO, to Emma Ulibarri and Paul Montoya. By age 2, he was a big brother to his best friend, his sister Sandra. Despite having health problems throughout childhood, Paul always kept a smile on his face and had a contagious laugh.

After finishing high school, Paul attended Pueblo Community College to study Culinary Arts. After having various jobs mastering his skills, he became a cook at The Lamar Truck Plaza restaurant, where he worked for over 25 years. While working there, Paul made many lifetime friends. He also created countless recipes that are still served there today.

Although Paul never married, he had many loves. Paul loved movies, music and anime, but what he cherished most of all were his family and friends. Paul lived in Lamar with his mother, Emma, until 2020, when they relocated to Pueblo to be closer to family. Paul lit up a room with his storytelling abilities and had a way of always making you laugh. He was selfless and would do anything for anyone, never asking for anything in return.

Paul is survived by his mother, Emma Ulibarri, his brother Ismael (Natalie) Tapia, sister Stephanie (Chris) Bennett, nephew Joseph (Autum) Gonzalez, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Ulibarri, grandparents Emilio and Matilde Ulibarri, father Paul Montoya, Aunts Viola Ulibarri and Flora Montoya, and Uncle Rosendo Ulibarri. Paul was always so kind and loving and will be missed dearly. We take comfort in knowing that he is smiling down on us with his sister by his side.
