Phillip Merle Pond passed away on July 17, 2023 at the age of 81. Phil was born in Alice, TX on June 24, 1942 to parents Virginia (Moore) and Merle Pond. Phil grew up in Lockhart, TX with his sister, Patty.

He graduated from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science – Architecture in 1965. He then served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and was awarded a Purple Heart in 1968. Phil had a love of the mountains and In 1970, moved to Evergreen, CO, where he established an architecture firm. In 1990, after teaching part-time while self-employed, Phil transitioned to a full-time career teaching Architectural Technology in MI.

At his 35th high school reunion (where he was awarded the person most likely not to be confused with Kevin Costner), he reconnected with his high school sweetheart, Myrna (Shirley) Armistead, whom he married in 1997. Following a stroke, he retired in 2002, and enthusiastically returned to Colorado to live in his beloved mountains until he passed away. Phil is survived by his wife, Myrna; his daughter, Tracey (Mat); stepson, Robert; two step-grandchildren, and niece and nephews.

Phil was forever curious, awed by nature, and was an adept user of the imagination. He loved bridges and waterfalls; he prioritized wants over shoulds; and was not beyond rearranging hotel furniture for a more optimal view.

A memorial service will be held at Allenspark Community Church in Allenspark, CO on July 29th at 1:00 p.m. To honor Phil, please never pass by a lemonade stand without stopping, and always, always extend a helping hand to a stranger.
