Robin A. Riley, known by most as Rob, passed away unexpectedly on July 5, 2023. He considered the Blue Ridge Mountains as his home prior to Colorado. Rob said the three greatest accomplishments of his life were serving his Country in the Army during the last years of Vietnam, marrying Kathie (although he said he could never figure out why she married him), and having two awesome children, Katelyn and Justin, along with three grandbabies who were so dear to him, Gunner, Brieland, and Hunter.

Those who knew Rob well knew that he was a colorful curmudgeon on the outside – from the top of his favorite cowboy hat that had seen better days, years ago, to the toes of his boots that he wore with everything, including swim trunks – with a heart of gold. He could make friends anywhere by striking up a conversation and telling some stories. Wherever he did business, Rob made life-long friends.

Rob was essential in the family business at Flying R Ranch along with his work in construction and heavy hauling. His “hobbies” included judging and participating in ranch sorting, participating in team roping as a left-handed healer, teaching our youth as a 4-H horse leader, taking care of every horse as if it was his own, taking care of every horse owner at Flying R Ranch as if family, and manning the barbecue at any event where barbecue could possibly be an option.

We firmly believe that Rob was met by his favorite horses (Trucker and Cowboy) and dogs, along with the cowboys who went before him to show him the trail. Rob left a giant-sized hole in the lives of his wife, Kathie Troudt Riley, his daughter, Katelyn Riley and her children Gunner, Brieland, and Hunter, and his son Justin Riley. His uncle Al, who was like a father to him, his brothers Richard (Sandy) and Patrick (Renee), and Frankie and the other nieces and nephews survive him. Rob’s parents, Charles and Rita, and sister Anita passed before him.

Please join us on August 12, 2023, from 3 to 6 pm at McC Ranch, 12425 N. County Road 27, Loveland, Colorado to get together, share laughs and stories, and raise one to Rob.
