MAY 27, 1980 – AUGUST 8, 2023
Sarah Usery was welcomed into the arms of her loving savior on Tuesday, August 8th, 2023.
She passed away peacefully with her family and friends by her side, after a hard-fought battle with cancer. She was 43 years young.
Sarah had a passion for so many things. She held steadfast to her unwavering faith and trust in God. Then, she loved her kids, family and dog. She loved art and she loved music. She loved cooking and baking. She was an avid gardener and loved plants. Especially flowers! She loved to crochet, and she loved to serve others. She loved living. She fought her illness with everything she had and refused to let it define her. When her cancer diagnosis came, it was a lot and there were times when it got her down. But Sarah remained faithful and trusting in God’s plan. She continued with every available option to fight her cancer. Sarah faced her illness head on and while she was afraid of leaving, she certainly was not afraid of where she was going.
Sarah Elizabeth Girvin was born on May 27, 1980 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Jim and Sue Girvin. She had an older brother, Chris, or “Critapher” as Sarah called him, and a baby sister, Jaime. They grew up in Littleton, Colorado. Sarah was always active in the church youth group and went on many mission trips. On one trip, she had the opportunity to visit China. Making many lifelong friends, along the way. She graduated from Littleton High School in 1998 and went on to study at Colorado Christian University for a year. After taking a semester off, she transferred to Colorado State University where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Horticulture Therapy.
After graduation, Sarah began nursing school, but soon learned she was expecting her first child and went on the greatest career path she could have ever imagined: becoming a mother. Sarah loved her children dearly and loved being a mother. Noah, Emma, Clara, and Adah meant the world to Sarah. She loved each of them even before they were born. With every waking moment and every living breath, Sarah thought of her children. She deeply regrets leaving them and wants them to know she will forever be watching from above and hope they trust in God’s plan.
Sarah brightened the darkest corners of the darkest rooms. She was a woman of incredible faith that never wavered and, no matter where she was, she was always active in the church. She had a heart of gold and was always thinking of others. Crocheting blankets, delivering meals, or lending a helping hand was her love language for others. She was always up for a new adventure and traveling in her camper across the United States. She liked board games, playing cards, coffee and good conversations.
She loved animals and living the ranch life in Ault, Colorado, while caring for her chickens, turkeys, pigs, ducks, cats, and dogs. Sarah was very humorous, even “spicy” at times. She was a very honest person and for better or worse, very forthcoming. Like all of God’s children, Sarah was not perfect, and she knew it. However, she never stopped trying. Her father loved her for this and recognized the strength of his daughter’s character. Sarah’s family hopes she is remembered as she was: a saint and sinner, a shining light, a beacon of hope, a child of God.
Sarah leaves behind a beautiful legacy and is survived by her children, Noah, Emma, Clara, and Adah; her father, James; her brother, Christopher, his wife, Leslie (Aunt La La), and their son, Jason; her sister, Jaime, her husband, Felipe, and their sons, Corbin and Nolan; and by her furry companion, Oreo; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. She is greeted in heaven by her lord savior, her mother, Susan, and her grandparents, Jerry and Alice, and Robert and Betty. God blessed Sarah with an amazing group of lady friends, also known as “The Mother Hens”. She loved this wonderful group of women more than they will ever know.
They were there for her through it all and until the end, for that, her family is forever grateful. She was also blessed with a wonderful care team who welcomed her and treated her like family. Her family extends their gratitude to Sarah’s doctors, oncologists, radiologists, surgeons, amazing team of nurses and CNAs at Pathways Hospice (Sarah’s “ladybugs”), and to Sarah’s church family that invested their time, love, and faith. We rest assured knowing Sarah is resting in eternal peace, free from pain and sickness.
A Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 24th, 2023 from 6-8pm at Resthaven Funeral Home in Fort Collins. A Celebration of Sarah’s Life will take place on Friday, August 25th, 2023 at 10am at LifePointe Church in Fort Collins.
