August 25, 1926 - May 17, 2022

Wanda Martha Tyburczy passed away on May 17, 2022, at the age of 95. She was born in Indiana to Ludwik Kozak and Wanda Walicki Kozak on August 25, 1926. Her parents relocated to the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY where she and her brother Thad “Teddy” Kozak grew up together. This was a largely Polish-speaking neighborhood so she and her brother were brought up bi-culturally and bilingually. She often commented later in life on how nicer and simpler people lived then even during the Great Depression.

In the 40’s, as she grew into adulthood, she enjoyed going to Polish music dance halls where she socialized and eventually met and married her husband John Tyburczy from Williamsburg, Brooklyn. After World War II, Wanda and John were married in 1947 and lived for a short time in Brooklyn.  Then they moved out to Long Island, New York where they raised four natural sons and a nephew.  For most of her married life Wanda was a traditional “stay-at-home” mom who cooked, cleaned, attended to her children and was often outdoors teaching games to all the neighborhood children.

In the late 70’s Wanda separated from her husband and moved to Denver, Colorado. Wanda entered into the work force as a single mother still raising her youngest child. Starting out in retail, she eventually got a job working as an assembler with Cobe Laboratories where they made dialysis machines. She was proud to be involved with a product that saved lives and was always grateful for the salary and benefits she received while working there. After retirement, Wanda purchased and lived in a townhome in Westminster, Colorado. She lived there happily, until her failing health caused her to decide to move into an assisted living environment.

Wanda was a voracious reader for many years which she continued with the use of the Library of Congress “Talking Book” equipment after her eyesight was failing her. She was particularly fond of famous and historical biographies.

Wanda was preceeded in death by her ex-husband, John Tyburczy and her son, Lawrence Tyburczy.  She is survived by her children John Tyburczy of Thornton, Steven Tyburczy of Broomfield, Andrew Tyburczy (Niki) of Davenport, Florida, her grand-daughter Wendy of Northglenn and her great-grandson Xander of Northglenn.
