The St. Vrain Valley School District formally adopted the budget for the upcoming school year on Wednesday.

Executive Director of Budget and Finance Tony Whiteley explained to the school board that little had changed with the budget since it was first introduced. The district is expected to start the school year with a projected $152.5 million.

Whiteley expects district revenues to increase by $7.5 million while expenses will increase by $13.6 million.

The budget for the upcoming school year includes a “spend down” of $27.4 million from the general fund, but because of the district’s conservative funding, St. Vrain usually ends up with more funds than it budgets for. For example, the past school year budgeted for a $21.4 million spend down, but is expected to end with about $19 million more than budgeted.

Along with the budget includes raises for teachers and staff. The board previously approved the base salary for teacher pay to increase by $4,000 to $49,250.

The average raise will be about 7.69%. Depending on the district’s tax collections this year, that raise could be even more.

Also on Wednesday, the board extended Superintendent Don Haddad’s contract by one year with a raise of $19,000 to his annual salary. The 6.15% raise brings his salary to $328,000.

The board cited a review of Haddad’s overall performance and outcomes in granting his raise.
