Coordinated efforts between the district and community partners have moved the vaccination process for SVVSD staff “considerably way ahead of schedule,” said St. Vrain Valley School District Superintendent Don Haddad during Wednesday night’s school board meeting. 

In 2019-2020, 652 students were enrolled in a P-TECH program across Colorado, according to the Colorado Department of Education. St. Vrain programs hosted 284 students over the past five years.

A new, one-of-a-kind program launching between the Sachs Foundation, a Colorado Springs-based organization that offers Black Coloradans educational opportunities, and Colorado College is aiming to attract, support and retain Black teachers in the state.

What do parents want? Advocacy groups have released results from competing polls that come to opposite conclusions to argue that the general public agrees with them.

The bill sends an extra $60 million to school districts — $41 million to make up for lost local tax revenue and another $19 million to districts that saw particularly large enrollment declines or that experienced a notable decrease in the number of students living in poverty. 

The grant from the Colorado Department of Education to improve access to free Internet for students and educators across the school district who might not have it due to the economic challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Valerie Dodd, executive director of NextLight. 

Colorado is one of six states selected for a yearlong effort focused on strengthening how the state’s teacher preparation programs train future educators to teach reading. The project is the latest in a series of steps by state education officials meant to get more children reading at grade level after years of stagnant scores.

“The arts have still continued to be there for everyone during this crazy time. Creating it looks differently, but it’s definitely still alive and thriving,” said Janay Bird, St. Vrain Valley's fine arts coordinator..“For everyone, not just the students, art provides different things for everyone, may that be on the social emotional side, to help us grieve or celebrate, all of those real life emotions we feel all the time, art is what gets us through that.”

"The system and the day-to-day diligence that we've got in this district over years and years and years of strong leadership and I think it’s allowed us to to really ride through some extremely bumpy times with a modicum of control,” said Paula Peairs, SVVSD school board vice president, about the proposed budget amendments during Wednesday’s school board meeting.
