The National Park Service (NPS) announced yesterday that Steven “Drew” Bradley, 27, of Federal Heights, Colorado, died on September 7 after his car went over the rim of the Grand Canyon near the South Kaibab Trailhead.

The Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center received a report of a “vehicle with a single occupant that had gone over the rim” at around 12:40 p.m. on Sunday. “Park rangers responded immediately and recovered the body, which was located about 300 feet below the rim,” NPS said. “The body was transported to the rim by helicopter and then transferred to the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.”

It is not yet clear how the accident occured. An investigation into the incident is being conducted by NPS in coordination with the Coconino County Medical Examiner. No additional information is available at this time, according to NPS.

Despite the cause of the incident being unclear, in a press release about the incident, NPS shared resources and information about the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
