$1.2 million in combined grants from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be used to offset costs of recent and future improvements to the Greeley-Weld County Airport. The funds will primarily be used for the Echo and Bravo Complex, which began construction in the spring.
This includes a major ramp reconstruction that has already been completed to accommodate parking needs for heavier aircraft. This portion of the project has also improved safety and traffic flow at the airport. The entire project is expected to be completed in October.
There are three total grants that have been awarded for the airport, including an $850,000 Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grant for the Echo and Bravo Taxiway Complex and a $282,000 Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) to cover costs associated with the ramp reconstruction project.
“Investments like these continue to position the airport as an economic driver in the region, with a focus on the communities we serve,” said Greeley-Weld County Airport Director Cooper Anderson. “We are grateful for the partnership of Weld County, the City of Greeley, and our congressional delegation in helping advance these priorities.”
The City of Greeley and Weld County entered into an agreement last year to each contribute $5 million to pay for infrastructure improvements at the airport. There will also be new air traffic control facilities constructed and improvements to the runways, taxiways and electrical system.
“Given the improvements we’ve seen already, we’re excited about the future of this airport,” said Kevin Ross, Weld County Commissioner and Chair of the airport authority board. “These grants will be a great help toward our goals.”
