Do your pART: Artists can start at any point of life

Fitzgerald only took up oil painting in her retirement.

The Do you pARTSeries is a new addition to the Longmont Leader. In this series, we will share a local artist's favorite work while sharing a little bit about them. Artists are asked for fill out a questionnaire and send digital photos or videos of their art to [email protected]. All art styles are accepted and will be published at the discretion of the editor. 

Paula Fitzgerald uses oil painting to capture nature and the talents of other artists. 

"I am inspired by how light influences an object. I love painting flowers a fruit especially and mostly work with still life. But I try to challenge myself with other subjects," Fitzgerald said.

Fitzgerald only took up oil painting in her retirement. Prior to that she worked for the city of Longmont overseeing park and trail design. 

She moved to the area 41 years ago and immediately fell in love with the community and its vitality, she said. 

"It has become a mecca for artists of all kinds," Fitzgerald stated.

On such artist is Rey Ford who worked with Fitzgerald on her decade-long journey through art. 

"It is a meditative and nourishing practice," she said.
