Around 11:35 a.m., Longmont Police officers attempted to serve a man with an arrest and search warrant. The man refused to leave his house.

The man is a Longmont resident who lives in the 900 block of Yew Court. Officers attempted to serve him a warrant this morning but were not successful when the man refused to leave his home. In an effort to get him to leave his home, officers deployed a sound diversion device, according to Robin Ericson, spokesperson for LPD.

The sound diversion device did not coax the man from his home, however, three other men did leave the property.

After several attempts to contact the suspect without success, the Longmont Police called on the SWAT team to intervene. While on route, the suspect made contact with the police announcing he had no intention of leaving his property.

When the SWAT team arrived at the home they deployed a chemical agent to get the suspect out of the home, according to Ericson.

Around 2:40 p.m. the suspect once again contacted Longmont Police and spoke with SWAT negotiators. The man agreed to surrender.

The incident caused police to close Alpine Street from Ninth Avenue to Verdant Street for several hours. Roads are once again open.
