A Lafayette woman has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than half a million dollars from her Longmont employer.

Briana Sikerica Czarnecki, 44, was arrested March 18 in connection with an investigation conducted by the Longmont Police Department, Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Colorado Department of Revenue, officials said in a statement.

According to police, Czarnecki worked as a bookkeeper for a health and well-being company in Longmont. She was authorized to work 15-20 hours a week at $25 an hour, and officials said she would have legitimately earned $51,000 to $68,000 in that period.

During the 136 weeks of employment, the statement said that investigators found Czarnecki made 329 digital transfers totaling $494,766 from her employer’s PayPal account to her own. Investigators said she also wrote 114 employer checks to her private account for just over $83,000.

Officials estimated the total sum to be approximately $578,000 taken from Czarnecki’s employer that has been spent with no taxes paid on the additional income.

Charges pending against Czarnecki include theft, money laundering, cybercrime, forgery and criminal penalties for taxation, the statement said.

Anyone who may have information about this incident is asked to contact the Longmont Police Department at 303-651-8501 and refer to report #21-4443.
