Case moves forward in Longmont drive-by shooting

The man accused of killing a boy and injuring another in a drive-by shooting in Longmont appeared in court on Monday.

Yahis Solis, a 19-year-old Lafayette resident, has been charged with first degree murder and attempted first degree murder for a shooting the occurred Aug. 20 at Kensington Street and St. Clair Avenue in Longmont. Monday was Solis’ preliminary hearing.

The 13-year-old killed in the shooting was identified by the Boulder County Coroner as Isahis Rosales. He was walking with a 15 year old who was shot in the leg but survived.

According to Solis’ arrest affidavit, 10 empty shell casings were found on the street and a bullet hole was discovered in the door of a townhome nearby.

Longmont police officers found the vehicle matching witness descriptions of the shooting about six minutes after it occurred, identifying Solis, who had a misdemeanor arrest warrant in Boulder County on shoplifting charges.

The shooting may have been gang related, according to the affidavit.

Solis is scheduled to appear again in court on Feb. 10 for his arraignment, according to the court docket. He is being held without bond.
