A man was arrested Saturday after shooting what appeared to be a pistol in Clark Centennial Community Park, located at 1100 Lashley Street.

The suspect was described as a man wearing a white shirt and shorts. After firing the gun, the man was seen walking southbound through the park.

The Longmont Police located the suspect and saw him raise his right arm into the air with black object resembling a pistol in his right hand. He appeared to be shooting in the air, according to the officer.

The officer activated their overhead patrol lights and sirens.

The suspect jumped when he heard the sirens and immediately put his empty hand up in the air. The officer ordered him to get down on the ground.

The suspect was placed under arrest as additional officers arrived.

Upon recovering the firearm, officers observed that the pistol was all black and appeared to be a firearm, but it was lighter in weight. When the officer attempted to remove the magazine, they found it wasn’t removable. It then became clear the pistol was actually a BB gun.

The suspect was charged with disorderly conduct-displays with a deadly weapon. No one was injured during the shooting.
