On Jan. 19, students from Westview Middle School, located at 1651 Airport Road, were evacuated due to a bomb threat. Students were taken to Silver Creek High School to reunite with their parents.

The Longmont Police Department conducted a full sweep of the building using a bomb-detecting K9 team but did not find anything suspicious at the school, a news release from LPD stated.

An investigation was launched to find who submitted the threat to the school.

During the course of the investigation, detectives contacted a young girl who admitted to making the threat.

According to LPD, the investigation is still open to ensure no one else was involved.

The girl's case was referred to diversion for "accountability, prevention and consideration for an alternative to formal juvenile prosecution," a news release from LPD stated.

The associated criminal offenses include false reporting to the authorities, false reporting of an explosive device and interference with an educational institution, according to LPD.
