Lawayne Mosley, the father of Elijah McClain, was arrested on Jan. 20 on multiple charges including allegedly assaulting an officer.

A concerned citizen contacted the Colorado State Police to report that a driver near I-70 and Manilla Road, near Bennett, was “weaving and not maintaining speed,” according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol.

CSP issued an alert. Officers contacted Mosley at a gas station in Adams County and approached him while he was still in his vehicle.

According to the news release, Mosley did not leave his vehicle when asked.

“As the trooper began to assist Mr. Mosley from the vehicle, the trooper was physically assaulted by Mr. Mosley,” the report read.

An Adams County deputy arrived on the scene and tased Mosley to assist with the arrest. Mosely was offered treatment at the site and was later transported to a nearby hospital for a voluntary blood test.

“Mosley did not suffer any injuries beyond the taser contact points,” according to the news release.

Mosley was arrested and booked into the Arapahoe County Jail and charged with second-degree assault of a peace officer, driving under the influence, resisting arrest, careless driving and possession of a weapon while under the influence.
