A Wyoming man was apprehended after his vehicle was caught on a security camera at an RV dealership outside of Longmont.

Weld County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call around 9 a.m. Tuesday at an RV dealership outside of Longmont. The dealership reported that two catalytic converters had been stolen from RVs on the lot.

The dealer supplied the deputies with security footage that showed a gray Nissan sedan with "distinctive damage to the rear passenger door as a possible suspect vehicle," a post from the Weld County Sheriff's Office stated.

Deputies recalled passing a vehicle parked at a nearby motel that matched that description.

Upon arriving at the motel, officers located the car and found a woman sleeping in the back seat along with license plates, bolt cutters and sawzall blades in plain sight.

The woman said the vehicle belonged to a man named Austin — whom she had only met two days prior. She did not know his last name but said he was staying in a room at the motel.

While conducting interviews at nearby businesses to see if the vehicle had been involved in other incidents, deputies saw the woman and the male suspect walking down the street. Deputies approached the couple and asked who they were.

The suspect identified himself at Jack Nickelsen and provided a false date of birth. Deputies soon discovered that the man's name was really Austin Brumfield.

Brumfield told deputies he provided a false name because he had an active warrant for breaking and entering in Wyoming, according to the post. This information also turned out to be false, according to the post.

After securing a search warrant for the car, deputies found several more catalytic converters in the trunk — stolen from jurisdictions throughout Colorado, according to the post.

Brumfield was arrested with charges of false reporting to authorities, theft and two counts of first-degree criminal trespass, which are felonies.

An investigation is ongoing and officials suspect other charges may be pending.

Anyone with information regarding this or any other crime is asked to call the Weld County Sheriff’s Office at (970) 356-4015 or Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be submitted through the Crime Stoppers website at www.NoCoCrimeStoppers.com. Those submitting tips through Crime Stoppers that lead to the arrest and filing of charges on a suspect(s) may be eligible for a cash reward.
