City Council will be holding a Study Session tomorrow, Tuesday May 16, 2017. The current agenda consists of two items.

The first agenda item is a proclamation designating May 21, 2017 as "World Day For Cultural Diversity For Dialogue And Development". The proclamation, which will be given to the Longmont Multicultural Action Committee (LMAC), hopes to encourage "people and organizations from around the world to support diversity" and hopes that "community members can take concrete, grassroots action to support diversity". According to City Council Communication, the LMAC is a City Council-initiated effort  that inspires Longmont residents to take individual and collective action to promote cultural understanding, inclusion, and involvement. Sam Seyfi, Chair of the Longmont Multicultural Action Committee, and committee members Carla Stein and Yvette Larrea as well as Adriana Perea, Community Relations Specialist with the City of Longmont, will be present to accept the proclamation.

The second agenda item is a review of the city of Longmont's policies and practices regarding the city's undocumented immigrant community. According to City Council Communication, The City of Longmont staff will make presentations at the Council meeting about current policies and practices regarding our community’s undocumented immigrant population. The presentation will offer information about:

  1. Community safety
  2. Longmont Public Safety’s policies and practices
  3. Our relationship with local, state and federal agencies
  4. Our relationships with various populations in our community
  5. Impact of federal and state requirements related to grants and services to the community
  6. Highlights of the work of the Longmont Multicultural Action Committee
