Legendary AIDS activist Eric Sawyer is scheduled to appear in Boulder Dec. 1 to mark World AIDS Day.
Sawyer is a founding member of ACT Up (the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power). Sawyer participated in countless actions to call attention to the deadly AIDS virus, including dumping the ashes of people who died of AIDS on the White House lawn, according to Out Boulder County.
Sawyer will talk about the patterns of pandemics then and now, including COVID-19 and monkeypox (or MPX). Sawyer will specifically talk about public health successes and failures in addressing pandemics, especially with MPX, and what the LGBTQ community can do to take action, said Bruce Parker, deputy director of Out Boulder County.
Out Boulder County, Boulder County AIDS Project and the CU Boulder Pride Office is sponsoring Sawyer’s talk at 1535 Spruce St., in Boulder.
A reception is scheduled for 6-7 p.m. with Sawyer’s presentation starting at 7 p.m. An RSVP is required for the reception.
