The Boulder Police Department announced on Friday morning that the woman wanted on 35 charges related to menacing a group of schoolchildren and teachers on Monday was arrested on Thursday night. The suspect, Alyiah Faith Vega, 52, had previously given another family member’s name and information to the police when being arrested (Alyssa F. Barger), so this name is different from what was previously released by the department.
According to BPD, she also had “active warrants out of Boulder County, Lakewood, and Edgewater related to dangerous drugs, criminal impersonation and DUI charges.”
Yesterday, the Boulder Police Department published a news release asking for the public’s help to find the suspect, who was wanted on 35 new charges related to menacing a group of schoolchildren and teachers on May 5. The suspect has no fixed address and has limited ties to the community.
She had initially been arrested on May 5 for felony menacing after the department received reports that a woman was waving around a knife and allegedly threatening to kill a teacher and students in the 1700 block of Broadway. Witnesses said the suspect was within 10 feet of the children and teacher when she threatened to kill them while waving the knife around. The teacher and students were not injured during the encounter.
She was officially booked into the Boulder County Jail at 7:34 p.m. Monday and was released with a personal recognizance bond on Tuesday. Then, on Thursday, the District Attorney’s Office filed 18 new charges of felony menacing and 17 counts of misdemeanor child abuse against her. “[Vega] did not appear. Because the suspect failed to appear in court today as required, the judge revoked her bond and issued a warrant for her arrest for Failure to Appear,” BPD said.
