John Rampson was arrested after shots were fired in his home in 100 block of Judson St.

An individual reported to the police that she had not been in contact with the female occupant of Rampson since Oct. 31. A missing person report was filed.

On Nov. 1 at 3:27 a.m., Rampson returned to the duplex. A witness said several parties — who were described as “gang bangers” —  were in the downstairs portion of the home. The witness heard the “sound of a shotgun ‘racking’” and reported that Rampson “fired multiple rounds from his handgun towards the intruders,” the police affidavit states.

Rampson then jumped from the bedroom window and took off on foot, according to the witness's report.

Around 5:39 a.m. police were called to a neighbor’s home with a report of an auto theft. The owner of the 2002 Jeep Liberty told officers they believed their car had been “hot wired.”

Only a few hours later — in relation to the auto theft — police were again called to the area. A woman discovered an ID card and a debit card on the floor of her garage. She also heard someone coughing and other noises which prompted her to call the police.

The ID and debit card belonged to Rampson and police set up a perimeter around the neighbor’s home. Rampson was found in the attic of the home, according to the police affidavit.

Rampson surrendered peacefully, after some time, and was transported to the Boulder County Jail and charged with illegal discharge of a firearm, violation of a protection order, prohibited use of weapons, reckless endangerment, second-degree burglary of an occupied dwelling and criminal attempt at auto theft.
