The Longmont City Council voted to place the topic of stopping all new development in the City of Longmont until August 4 on a future city council agenda.
The reason for the stop would be to give city staff time to finish a development evaluation tool without the interference of new development projects demanding their attention.
Council member Finley is concerned that stopping all development would negatively impact Longmont's economically.
Council members Waters suggested the stop because he wishes to see the new evaluation tools in place support changes in the code.
Council members Martin and Rodriguez also support the idea however, they would like to see a short time-line in place for the stop. They are concerned that, as with other ordinances, this could take longer than expected to implement and as a result impact the economy of Longmont in a negative way.
City Manager Harold Dominguez will spend the remainder of the week in meetings discussing the progress of the evaluation tool and has promised council that city staff is working on the topic as quickly as possible.
The motion to place the topic on an upcoming agenda passed 6-1 with Council member Finley against.
It has yet to be determined when this item will appear on the city council agenda.
