Councilor Martin said residents thought the council was "slacking"

The City Council will return to a four-meeting a month schedule for the rest of the year, after experimenting with just meeting three times a month during the first quarter of 2022.

Councilors voted unanimously this week to return to their previous four meeting schedule, with Councilor Marcia Martin saying the three meeting schedule did not sit well with residents.

“This has been terribly unpopular with the public,” Martin told the council. “They think we are slacking.”

She also said the council’s return to person-to-person sessions on March 29 makes it especially important to meet frequently. “We still need to come together.”

At least one of the four meetings is tentatively set aside so councilors can convene as the Longmont Housing Authority board of commissioners.

Councilors agreed in November to try meeting three times a month until March to see how it affects staff workloads. City Clerk Dawn Quintana and City Manager Harold Dominguez told the councilors they and their staff had to make adjustments but that working under the new schedule was doable.

“From my perspective it has functioned fairly well,” Qunintana said.

Councilor Susie Hidalgo-Fahring said meeting four times a month could cut down on the length of the meetings. “It might shorten the times we are meeting,” she said.
