Wednesday, June 25 is Bike to Work Day and the City of Longmont encourages all cyclists to ditch their cars and ride their bikes to work, for errands or to meet with friends. Participants are invited to stop by the City of Longmont’s Celebration Station at Civic Center Plaza, 7 - 9 am and enjoy a free pancake breakfast provided by the Longmont Columbine Lion’s Club.

Prizes will be raffled at 7:20 and 8:30 and the Longmont Bicycle Company will be onsite to provide free mechanical support to cyclists. Additionally, the following groups and businesses will be hosting information booths: City of Longmont Sustainability Office, Happy Day Plants, Inside Longmont Magazine, Juniper Goods, Longmont Chamber of Commerce, Peak Press Juicery, ResQ Coffee Roasters, Sam’s Club AND Spice Ebikes. A RIDE Longmont microtransit vehicle will also be on site for folks to learn more about the service and practice using the vehicle’s bike rack.

“Bike to Work Day is a great opportunity to celebrate sustainable transportation, healthy living and community connection,” said Phil Greenwald, the City of Longmont’s Transportation Planning Manager. “We’re excited to see so many people choosing two wheels over four, whether it’s their first ride or part of a daily routine.”

It is expected that thousands of Coloradans will participate in this summer’s Bike to Work Day. Those who want to participate are encouraged to register at biketoworkday.co.

Drivers should be extra vigilant as there will be more bicycles on the road than usual and cyclists are reminded to follow the rules of the road, ride with traffic, and yield to pedestrians.

Bike to Work Day is an annual event organized by Way to Go, a program of the Denver Regional Council of Governments in partnership with eight regional transportation management associations. Bike to Work Day is designed to inspire and support commuters in the Denver region to bike to work, helping them save money on their commutes, improve their health and lower stress levels while reducing traffic congestion and improving air quality.
