Hikers rescued in two separate incidents over the weekend

Hikers rescued from Canyon Loop on Friday, East Ridge Trail on Sunday

According to a press release from Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, it received a report on October 15 of a hiker injured on Canyon Loop at 377 Betasso Road around 5 p.m. It was determined the injured woman was roughly one mile from the trailhead.

Responders from Sugar Loaf Fire Department, Rocky Mountain Rescue and AMR arrived on scene. The hiker was transported to the trailhead on a litter by members of Rocky Mountain Rescue, where they were met by the hiker’s family. The hiker was then taken to the hospital for medical treatment by her family.

A separate release from October 17 involved a hiker injuring herself on East Ridge Trail near the summit of Mount Sanitas, near the city of Boulder.

The 35-year-old woman was descending the Mount Sanitas summit when she slipped and fell, injuring her ankle. The hiker’s companions attempted a splint for the woman, but she was unable to walk out. First responders were a city of Boulder Open Space Mountain Parks Ranger and firefighters from the Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District, who provided medical assistance.

Rocky Mountain Rescue arrived on scene secured the hiker with a splint and litter and a technical evacuation was performed, assisted by Boulder Mountain Fire Protection District. The injured woman was taken to the trailhead, where her friends transported her to the hospital for medical attention.
