On June 4, Longmont Public Safety (LPS) alerted the public to a deer that was injured and mobile in the area of 9th and Deerwood. “Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has been notified,” they said. “Longmont Animal Control is aware and working with CPW.”

LPS said that it was unclear how the deer had been injured. Because it was a wild animal, CPW took over in monitoring the situation, as Longmont animal control officers do not handle “wild incidents with wild animals,” according to the city’s public information officer, Rogelio Mares.

CPW’s Northeast Region Public Information Officer Kara Van Hoose said that CPW is monitoring the deer through calls and reported sightings, but the department had not captured the deer.

“Wildlife do get injured in the wild like humans do,” she said. “If an animal is able to move around and find food (which is what it sounds like is the case with this deer), it has a good chance of survival.”

Van Hoose said that there is no rehab process for injured deer.
