Longmont is expected to reach a population of 100,000 people this year. Only a small number of those residents are known by many, but the Longmont Community Foundation hopes to get to know a few more through its new video series.

The Longmont Community Foundation created a video series titled “Neighbor Meets Neighbor.”

The series will focus on sharing the stories of Longmont residents in the hopes of “bridging the gap between misperception and understanding,” the foundation’s website states.

“It’s a platform for regular folks to tell their stories about who they are, what makes them the person they are today and how Longmont has played into that,” said Jenniffer Barahona digital media and community marketing strategist for the Longmont Community Foundation.

The project is targeting people who don’t already have a platform to be heard, such as those in political offices or high-status positions, Barahona said.

Those who choose to be part of the series are asked to fill out an online form. From there the Community Foundation will contact Longmont residents to arrange a short interview via ZOOM. Applications are due by March 31.

Videos from the series will be featured on the Longmont Community Foundation’s YouTube channel.

“The idea of this whole video series is to create empathy and to create understanding of people. We are trying to get more diverse and more interesting stories that will really open the eyes of the audience,” Barahona said.
