On August 21, North America will witness a historic solar eclipse, and Colorado will have nearly a front row seat. To celebrate and prepare for this event, the Library is hosting a special program, “Solar Eclipse 2017: The Science & Mystique Behind the Upcoming Amazing Celestial Event,” on Saturday, August 19, from 1 to 2:30 pm. This family program will introduce the young and young-at-heart to the how’s and why’s of eclipses, how eclipses help science and the lore and mythology behind solar eclipses in literature. A 45-minute presentation by astronomy Professor Richard Koehler will be followed by a Q&A session. Participants will be given free solar eclipse glasses to safely view the phenomenon, refreshments will be served, and a make-and-take craft will be available. This program is intended for families, and all children under age 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and can be accomplished online here. No email address or internet? Call (303) 651-8477 to register.
