About Us

The Longmont Observer is a community supported non-profit news and media organization in Longmont, CO that brings local journalists and volunteers together. We are a 501(c)(3) public charity.

We are a new kind of news organization focused on a membership driven community model that supplies our city with news, information and analysis that just isn’t available anymore. We, the community, will own it, and we will direct what it is and what it’ll become.

What sets us apart?

  • We are supported by our members, sponsors, and underwriters who care about local journalism.
  • As a nonprofit our only vested interest is to supply you with quality local news, information, and analysis.
  • There will be no paywall so anyone can read the Longmont Observer.
  • We are transparent about the way we operate and we will publish our financials regularly.
  • We’re bringing genuine community control to our local news.

If you’d like to help us build this new organization, please, join our weekly MeetUp and help us design and run something unique to Longmont. You don’t need to have a particular skill to join, but we are going to need editors, writers, photographers, videographers, video editors and podcast creators. We also want people that want to learn how to become all of those things. No experience necessary. You don’t need to jump right in either.  Feel free to just join and hang out and see what’s happening first. All are welcome.
