From talks online at the Longmont Museum to youth programs with Sustainable Resilient Longmont to community cleanups around town, there is no shortage of way to celebrate Earth Day. There is something for everyone. 

April 22

Take Back the Night 

5 p.m. online

Join us at our virtual Take Back the Night event to help support survivors of sexual violence in our community. We will offer speakers, live music, and open mic for survivor stories. BYOC - Bring your own candle! 

April 24

Longmont Earth Day Celebration

Youth & Teen Earth Day Program

10:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. via Zoom

The Youth & Teen Earth Day Program will consist of two online sessions: the first session for elementary-aged youth and the second for students in middle through high school. The morning session for younger participants will feature an interactive presentation with the Greenwood Wildlife Rehabilitation Center followed by a bilingually presented recycled arts and crafts activity. The events for our older students will kick off at 1:00 p.m. with conversation and advice on how to start an environmental club. Then, we will begin our Youth Visions for the Future Film Festival, viewing and discussing submissions from our local student filmmakers.

We’re In This Together: Equitable Climate Action in Longmont 

6:30 - 8:30 p.m. via Longmont Public Media

Climate change affects everyone, and everyone can do something about it. As part of SRL's virtual Earth Day Celebration at the Longmont Museum, join the Equitable Climate Action Team (ECAT) on Saturday, April 24 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. to learn about what Longmont is doing to promote economic and racial justice and equity while mitigating climate change. The evening will include a live panel with members of ECAT, as well as an opportunity for the public to ask questions and find out how to get involved. This is a bilingual event, and Spanish and English interpretation will be provided.

Harry Potter Discussions for Kids & Teens Online

10 a.m. online

Prefects and Junior Prefects are Harry Potter discussion groups for ages 8-18. These groups encourage creative and critical thinking through an examination of the world of Harry Potter!

Prefects and Junior Prefects groups typically meet at Carbon Valley Library in Firestone and Erie Community Library, but now we are bringing the magic online via Zoom! To protect everyone’s privacy and well-being online, free registration is required.

Everyone in the household is welcome to take part (especially the House-elves). Please register for the number of devices you will be using rather than for the number of people from your household who will be attending.

We will send you a link, meeting i.d., and the magical password after you register.

Sugar Moon at Wibby Brewing

6 p.m. at Wibby Brewing

The gals from Sugar Moon will be joined by Matt Malick on upright bass for an evening of original and traditional bluegrass music. Come raise a glass and ring in the spring at the (safe, socially distanced) Wibby pavilion.

Street Dog Coalition Veterinary Clinic

10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1000 15th Ave. 

 We are honored to be able to support the work of the Street Dog Coalition by providing space for one of their outdoor free veterinary clinics. The event will be held in the parking lot of Bethlehem Lutheran Church here in Longmont on April 24th, 10am-2pm. We are grateful for the congregation's partnership in this way!

Safety Day 2021

9 a.m. at Mile-Hi Skydiving Center

It's that time again - let's talk skydiving safety!

Safety meeting & BBQ will begin after last load. Prizes will be raffled off at the end of the meeting. Raffle prizes include a 100 JUMP PACKAGE and more... Must be present at meeting to win.

Enter raffle at the main hangar any time before the meeting on 04/24. Only 1 entry per person. Raffle entry closes after last load.

To enter the raffle for the 100 JUMP PACKAGE:

1) get your rig inspected by one of our riggers (free)

2) get into a hanging harness and practice your emergency procedures (if you don't have your own rig, get into the hanging harness twice)

April 25

Earth Week Community Cleanup

1-3 p.m. at 100 E. Longs Peak Ave.

Join us for this month’s community clean-up, organized in conjunction with the 2021 Longmont Earth Day Celebration! This event is being organized by the Sustainable Resilient Longmont Zero Waste Committee. This month, our team will be cleaning both Kensington Park and Clark Centennial Park.

We will meet at the Kensington Park picnic shelter at 1:00 p.m., 100 E. Longs Peak Ave.

SRL will provide trash and recycling bags, and there will be some trash grabbers on hand for those who want to clean up the nearby waterways. Please bring work gloves if you have them. We will have separate collection receptacles for the compost, recycling, and landfill trash. Help us make Longmont a more beautiful, clean, and Zero Waste City!

The Impersonators at Bootstrap Brewery

3 p.m. at Bootstrap Brewing Company

The dawn of the Impersonators!!! We are a trio/quartet. We do full-on musical impersonations of famous artists including, but not limited to, Elvis Presley, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Jerry Garcia, Bruce Springsteen, Adam Sandler, Barry Gibs and others. Featuring Shawn Camden from Los Cheesies, artist Dave Hartmen, rocket scientist Glenn, and flower child Crissy.

April 26

Deep Thoughts Philosophy Reading Group with POPCO

7 to 8:30 pm, via Zoom

This group meets monthly to discuss a classic short work of philosophy or an excerpt from a longer work. Participants read the work prior to our meeting, and together we explore the meaning of the text and the value it offers us. All participants are welcome, including those who are unable to read the entire selection before the meeting. Sessions are facilitated by Dawn Jacobs and other graduate students of the Philosophy Outreach Program of Colorado at CU Boulder (POPCO).

Facilitators will focus on encouraging and guiding a group discussion/learning event rather than on teaching. Open to adults and older teens aged 16+.

Registration is required for each meeting and limited to 24 participants. Participants will receive directions for joining the Zoom meeting in their confirmation emails.

Read For Your Health Book Club

7-8:30pm online

We will be discussing On Immunity: an inoculation by Eula Bliss. This book group focuses on health-related issues using suggested books and discussion guides from the National Network of Libraries of Medicine (NNLM) and led by one of our librarians. Eight copies of the next meeting's book will be available at the 2nd Floor Desk on a first come, first served basis for those who are currently registered for the next meeting beginning approximately one month prior to the meeting. Open to adults and teens aged 16+.

New episodes drop on the 2nd Friday of the month at 8 am. Join your Longmont librarians for a new monthly, interactive book club. Each month, we'll spend 30 minutes to an hour chatting about a different book. You can participate! Read the book, send us your thoughts, and then listen in as we share our thoughts and perspectives.
