Longmont’s Fourth of July fireworks display will be hosted at Fox Hill Country Club in coordination with the Skyline Kiwanis this year.
The display is scheduled to begin at 9:45 p.m. on July 4, and will last at least 15 minutes. The location of Fox Hill in correlation to the rest of the city, as well as the height of the fireworks display in previous years mean the pyrotechnic show should be visible from most areas of Longmont.
The event at Fox Hill Country Club is a private party to be used as a fundraiser for future shows. However, the fireworks display will be seen throughout Longmont. Residents that have not purchased tickets to the event will not be allowed on the grounds of the golf course.
“Our parking lot is definitely going to be pretty full,” said Ryan Naab, sales and marketing manager for Fox Hill. “All the ticketing for the event was handled by Skyline Kiwanis and the event sold out pretty quickly.”
Longmont has made the free public parking lots at Stephen Day Park, Clark Centennial Park and Sandstone Ranch available to residents who wish to watch the fireworks display. Union Reservoir will have extended hours as well to accommodate fireworks viewing, though parking fees apply.
The city has asked residents to be considerate to their neighbors and not park in residential neighborhoods surrounding Fox Hill. Parking will also not be permitted at Boulder County Fairgrounds this year, as they are not hosting the event. Residents will not be permitted to park along Hwy 119 out of safety concerns and traffic congestion, according to the city of Longmont’s website. Likewise, residents are not allowed to park at UCHealth Longs Peak Hospital as it will hinder emergency operations for the medical facility.
Sergeant Craig Mortensen of the Longmont Police Department is working with the event to make sure the celebration is safe for all residents. Sgt. Mortensen emphasized the need for clear lanes surrounding the hospital to prevent any obstructions to emergency traffic.
"This is a new thing, so we're not sure where all the best spots are to view fireworks yet," Sgt. Mortensen said. "We encourage residents to enjoy themselves and have picnics, we just want everyone to be kind neighbors and be respectful of private property around town this year."
This is the first year that Skyline Kiwanis has taken on financial and organizational duties for Longmont’s firework display. Kiwanis organizer Kyle Feldman said the decision for a smaller event was made due to unknowns regarding the COVID pandemic, and wanting to have some celebration after last year’s fireworks were canceled.
“One of the big deals for us this year is financing,” Feldman said. “We’re grateful for our sponsors like Wyatt’s Wet Goods and Centennial Lending for helping us celebrate this year.”
