A man identified as 26-year-old Vincent Ray Martinez was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in Greeley on June 9. Martinez fled a Pueblo transitional house and was tracked by the Colorado Department of Corrections to be at his father’s home in Greeley. Around noon on Monday, Greeley police arrived on the scene in the 2100 block of 7th Avenue and Martinez went into the home.

At 1:40 p.m., a reverse 911 alert was sent to residents within a two-block radius advising them to stay inside. The Greeley Police Department posted a community alert on Facebook at 2:10 p.m. on Monday. The police department obtained a search warrant and the SWAT team attempted to get the suspect to surrender. The SWAT team entered the house and found the deceased body of Martinez with self-inflicted gunshot wounds. At 5:15 p.m., the reverse 911 notification was cancelled.

The initial press release from the Greeley Police Department said Martinez fled from a “halfway house,” but the Greeley Police Department issued an update stating it was a transitional house. Halfway houses are structured facilities typically for people transitioning into society after incarceration and have more strict protocols. Transitional houses are more likely to be voluntary and may include individuals who are facing homelessness.
