Morning Brief: Longmont's Angel Initiative's Shining the Light on Addiction Series Features Cody Gardner on June 21

Longmont Public Safety will host Cody Gardner, CEO of Redpoint Center, for their Shining the Light on Addiction Series. The event will be held in the Longmont Civic Center, located at 350 Kimbark from 6-7:30 p.m in the City Council Chambers.

"Cody Gardner presenting "What We Have Learned, Addiction, Mental Health and Recovery in Colorado". The presentation will focus on addiction and mental health trends in Colorado and specifically in Longmont. Cody will touch on his own recovery and the journey through opening an addiction treatment program in Longmont," states Robin Ericson, marketing analyst and assistant to the Public Safety Chief in an email to the Longmont Observer.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Shining the Light on Addiction Series is "organized by members of the community who help or participate in our Angel Initiative," says Jeff Satur, Deputy Chief of Police Services. "We are trying to reduce the stigma associated with Addiction, by sharing information, telling personal stories and helping people connect with our Angel Initiative."

These talks are, "are informative, our speakers are dynamic and the information can be very helpful to families or persons wanting to change their lives," says Satur.

The members of the Angel Initiative plan to host a new speaker for the Shining the Light on Addiction Series each month. Not all the dates have been planned out yet but more information on future speakers is on its way.

Work that was scheduled to begin on the 9th Avenue railroad track crossing between Airport Road and Hover street has been delayed one week. The City of Longmont and Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (BNSF), partners in the project, were planning for work to begin on Wednesday, June 19; however, BNSF requested to extend the start date by one week. Construction is now anticipated to begin on Wednesday, June 27.
