Jose Guadalupe Posada, creator of the iconic Dia de los Muertos skeletons, was a shrewd social critic who used satirical imagery and humor to spark protest and social change.
Using printmaking techniques alongside a discussion about Posada’s use of art as a subtle tool of resistance, attendees will create their own protest print about a topic of their choice. They also learn how to write a satirical poem to accompany their print.

Art & Sip: The Art of Collage
Thursday, Oct. 26, 6:30 pm; $40
Grab a drink and get creative with these Thursday Night classes for adults. Beer, wine, and snacks will be available for purchase in the Atrium Bar. Feel the nostalgia of classic cut and paste collage-making as we decorate small canvases or metal tins with collaged materials and mod podge.

Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra returns to provide live musical accompaniment for Hitchcock’s third feature film. In "The Lodger," Hitchcock took a major step toward greatness and made what he considered his true directorial debut. This haunting silent thriller tells the tale of a mysterious young man who takes up residence at a London boardinghouse just as a killer known as the Avenger descends upon the city, preying on blonde women.

Learn about the future of energy in Longmont
The City of Longmont Sustainability Office will host a Climate Action Sunday event at the Longmont Museum on Sunday, October 29 titled “Revolutionizing Energy.”
The City of Longmont Sustainability Office will host a Climate Action Sunday event at the Longmont Museum beginning at 1:30 pm on Sunday, October 29. Titled “Revolutionizing Energy,” the event will offer community members a glimpse of what our future sustainable world will look like and will equip them with concrete ways they can help make a difference on climate change. The afternoon will include an information fair with community partners and local resources, kids’ activities, a film, and a discussion featuring the complexities of transitioning to cleaner energy.
The global transition toward sustainable energy will change how we live, build and move. “Revolutionizing Energy” provides an opportunity to learn more about these changes and how local providers are preparing to meet the clean energy demand. The film “Backlight: Beyond the Green Horizon” will provide a global perspective on the green revolution. It will be accompanied by a local look at the future of energy with a presentation of how Longmont’s electric utility, Longmont Power & Communications, and its wholesale power provider, Platte River Power Authority (Platte River), are working together toward a 100% noncarbon energy mix by 2030. Following a discussion on local energy, attendees are invited to attend a sustainable energy fair. Here they can discover local resources, watch induction cooking demos, explore electric vehicles, and get a chance to receive free energy-efficiency giveaways.

“We’re excited to share information about the energy transformation that’s unfolding for our community,” said Susan Bartlett, director of electric strategies and solutions at Longmont Power & Communications (LPC). “Events like this allow our residents to not only learn about things like electric vehicles and induction cooking but to experience them firsthand and see that the future is not so far off as it might seem.”
“For the last 50 years, we have been the proud wholesale electric provider for the city of Longmont working in partnership with LPC to transform our energy landscape for a more sustainable future,” added Javier C. Camacho, director of public and external affairs, strategic communications and social marketing for Platte River. “We remain focused on working toward a noncarbon energy portfolio while continuing to provide the reliable, environmentally responsible and financially sustainable power our communities need and deserve. This event provides an opportunity to share the great work done by Platte River and LPC for the Longmont community.”

YWCA Boulder County will be partnering with Boulder JCC and YOUnify to host The Power of Peacemaking, a free film screening and community-strengthening workshop featuring the documentary The Abortion Talks at the Boulder JCC from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, 10/30. People of all backgrounds and beliefs are invited to attend the event, watch the film, and draw inspiration from the women in it. As Debbie Pope, CEO, YWCA Boulder County said: "In these polarized times, we have partnered with Boulder JCC, YOUnify, and the community not only to draw inspiration but to provide tools for paving a courageous path in strengthening our community, just as the women of the Abortion Talks did three decades ago."

Longmont Museum and Cultural Center
CENTRALongmont Presbyterian Church, in conjunction with Longmont Museum, will host a screening of the award-winning film At The River, a feature-length documentary about a handful of young Presbyterian pastors in the deep South in the 1950s and 60s who stood against racism and segregation—and the price they and their congregations paid for doing so.
There will be Q & A and a panel discussion following the screening featuring Carolyn Crowder herself, her associate producer Rod Murphy, Jr., and Dr. Les Purce, President for 15 years of Evergreen State College and the first African American elected to public office in the State of Idaho.
The film will be shown in Stewart Auditorium at Longmont Museum, Saturday, November 4, 2023. Doors open at 1:00 p.m. and the film will begin at 1:30 p.m. Admission is free but reservations are required.

Winter Wonderland: Santa Claus Life Model

Immerse yourself in the magical atmosphere of the holiday season, and bring your own drawing tools, colored pencils, and watercolors to work with Santa as your life model. This workshop is designed for all artist levels, from beginners to experienced artists who wish to enhance their artistic skills and bring the spirit of Christmas to life.
