Out Boulder County tonight is hosting a community conversation about implementing inclusive social studies standards in Colorado schools.
Special guests at the virtual meeting include Lisa Escárcega, Colorado State Board of Education member representing the 1st Congressional District, Rob Anderson, superintendent of Boulder Valley School District, and Bruce Parker, deputy director of Out Boulder County.
They will be joined by a parent and teacher who will discuss how not having accurate and inclusive social studies standards will impact our youth in Colorado classrooms, according to an OUT Boulder news release.
This meeting is in response to the scheduled November 10, 2022 vote by the Colorado State Board of Education on proposed social studies standards that do not include the legally required
accurate and inclusive information on underrepresented populations, including Indigenous, Black, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander, Middle
Eastern, LGBTQ+ Americans, and Americans with Disabilities, the news release states.
The meeting is scheduled from 6:30PM-8PM. The Zoom link is: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82058294420.
