A multicar crash on Friday resulted in the death of two passengers and six others injured including a one-year-old.

Around 6:30 p.m. Longmont Public Safety, or LPS, responded to a mulitcar crash at the intersection of Highway 119 and Zlaten Drive.

A Jeep, driven by a 27 year old woman from Longmont, was headed west on Hwy. 119 and turning left onto Zlaten Dr. when she was struck broadside by a truck pulling a skid-steer, stated a news release from LPS on Saturday.

The impact caused the Jeep to roll over where it struck a Kia SUV, which was stopped in the right turning lane on Zlaten Dr.

After hitting the Jeep the "truck continued across the intersection where it struck the signal light pole, detaching the trailer," according to the news release.

A male passenger from the Jeep and a male passenger from the truck were both killed during the crash. A one-year-old, a passenger in the Jeep, was flown to a Denver area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Five others involved in the crash were taken to Longmont area hospitals with various injuries, stated the news release.

"Longmont Police are looking to speak with occupants of a vehicle (unknown make or model) that was traveling next to the truck that was reportedly almost involved in the collision and any other witnesses that may have seen what occurred prior to or at during the collision.  Please call 303-651-8555 and ask to speak with an on-duty traffic officer," according to the news release.

An investigation is underway for the case in cooperation with the Weld County District Attorney's Office.

According to the news release, Vehicle Miles Traveled are down 12% since the begining of the pandemic, through the end of August, however the number of fatalities have only dropped 1%. Weld County reports 30 fatalies due to car crashes so far in 2020.

"While it is too early to release any conclusions about this tragic crash, as a reminder please wear your seatbelt’s, they save lives and avoid distractions while driving," stated the news release.
