UPDATE at 1:32 p.m. on June 5: BPD reported that "this is now an officer-involved shooting. One person is deceased at the scene. No officers were injured. No additional information is available." The update was shared on X at 1:24 p.m.
The Broomfield Police Department (BPD) posted on X this morning at 10:31 a.m. that A Precious Child, a nonprofit organization in the 7000 block of W. 118th Avenue in Broomfield, is in “secure mode” due to a threat outside of the building. They said that everyone inside the building is safe and secure and that the threat is outside the building.
The department said that there was no immediate danger inside of the building. “Officers are negotiating with a man in the parking lot who may have a gun,” the department said. Surrounding buildings were also asked to “secure” their doors.
When a business or school is in “secure mode,” the department said, “external access is restricted for the safety of those inside.” The BPD said that a shelter-in-place order has not been sent to the area as the threat is “contained.”
The BPD said that a reunification point for parents has been set up at 119th Place and Reed Street.
At 11:50 a.m., the BPD said that the Crisis Negotiations Team was on scene speaking with the man and that 118th Avenue was still closed at Main Street.
The situation is ongoing and the department said that it would provide updates as they become available.
A Precious Child serves children and caregivers and provides access to educational and extracurricular opportunities.
