Fourth of July festivities are scheduled to occur throughout Colorado on Friday and during the holiday weekend, including in the cities of Longmont and Boulder. But a handful of institutions have posted reminders online for residents regarding firework restrictions, which exist due to multiple factors, including wildfire danger. The City of Longmont and Boulder County both have firework restrictions in place, which should be adhered to during celebrations this weekend and year round.
According to Boulder County’s website, “any fireworks that leave the ground or explode are illegal in Colorado.” The county also said that if fire restrictions are in place or if a Red Flag Warning is in effect, no fireworks of any kind are allowed. Small fireworks that do not leave the ground or explode are allowed in Boulder County if there are no fire restrictions.
All fireworks that leave the ground and explode are illegal in Longmont, according to the city. Fines for use of illegal fireworks in Longmont are up to $500 and 90 days in jail (or both). The city will open its fireworks call center on July 4 from 8:30 p.m. until midnight, and the City of Longmont urges residents to report illegal fireworks in the city by calling 303-774-4731.
Longmont’s annual Fourth of July celebration will occur on Friday evening and will include a street party, drone show, three live music stages, food and drink vendors, and a professional; fireworks show, which is presented by the Skyline Kiwanis Club of Longmont. Public fireworks displays are subject to different regulations than personal fireworks use.
Skyline Kiwanis has brought a fireworks show to the City of Longmont for the last several years and said that the fireworks will cost $50,000. The show will begin around 9:30 p.m. and the fireworks will be launched from the Longmont Fire Training Center. Dickens Farm Nature Area and the Longmont Fire Training Center will be closed to all viewers and vehicles.
