The City of Boulder began sanitary sewer and stormwater utility maintenance at 11th Street and Canyon Boulevard last Thursday, May 15. Construction will occur during daytime hours from now until an expected completion date of Thursday, June 13.
“We understand how impactful this type of work can be on our community members and downtown businesses,” said Utilities Engineering Senior Manager Chris Douglas. “We appreciate the community’s patience as we complete these infrastructure upgrades to improve long-term utility service in downtown Boulder.”
There will be temporary road closures and traffic impacts for the duration of the construction, including Memorial Day weekend and during the Bolder Boulder road race scheduled for Monday, May 26. Westbound lanes on Canyon Boulevard will be closed between Broadway and 9th Street. For this stretch of Canyon Boulevard, there will be one lane going in each direction as westbound traffic is diverted to the eastbound lane.
In addition, the Penfield Tate II Municipal Building and Boulder Main Library Canyon Lot will only allow eastbound traffic to turn right into the lot and to turn right while exiting the lot.
The city is conducting this preventative maintenance to protect the water quality in Boulder Creek. This project is being coordinated with the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) pavement rehabilitation project.
Regular construction updates can be found on the city’s Cone Zones webpage. Updates on the pavement rehabilitation project at Highway 119 and Highway 7 can be found on CDOT’s website.
