A portion of the St. Vrain Greenway trail between Boston Avenue and Sunset Street will be closed for approximately one week beginning today. The closure is to allow crews to reinforce the bank that separates Izaak Walton Pond from the St. Vrain Creek through this area.

A portion of the parking lot at Izaak Walton Nature Area will also be closed for construction staging and access.

The reinforcement work will add temporary protection to the area during heavier creek flows due to runoff and rains. This temporary repair is anticipated to last until long-term reconstruction of the trail can take place during Resilient St. Vrain flood mitigation work in this area, currently several years away.

The trail closure will be clearly marked. Cyclists are encouraged to use the bike lanes on Boston and Sunset to detour around the area.

Residents can find information on both short- and long-term trail closures throughout Longmont’s trail system at bit.ly/trail-status-map, or call 303-651-8416.
