Vandals this week caused an estimated $100,000 worth of damage to Boulder County Parks and Open Space equipment. The damage included slashed tires, wires and hoses cut, grass stuffed into gas tanks, shovels thrown into the pond, and seats and seatbelts slashed, according to a news release from the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.

A sheriff's deputy about 10 a.m. Wednesday was called to an open space property 63rd Street and Oxford Road, where the damage was discovered by an open space ranger. The agricultural property, owned by Boulder County Parks and Open Space, is undergoing a prairie dog management project and is closed to the public, according to the release.

"Damage was done to every utility vehicle and trailer on the property," according to the release.

A wildlife technician also advised the sheriff's office that approximately 70 prairie dog traps recently sustained $5,000 worth damaged at the Hillside Estates open space property near the intersection of Colo. 52 and North 79th Street, according to the release. It is unclear if the incidents are related, according to the sheriff's office.

Anyone who saw suspicious activity at or around either of the properties is asked to email Deputy Tkach at [email protected]. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office case number is 20-3679.
